Eiffel Tower
The tallest structure in the world, the Eiffel Tower is probably the most recognizable attraction in Europe and the most famous symbol of Paris. It is impossible to go to Paris without visiting the Eiffel Tower. Even if you don't want to visit this world-famous structure, you'll see its peak from anywhere in Paris. The height of the tower is 300 meters. When it was completed in the late 19th century, it was twice as tall as the Washington Monument, the tallest building in the world at the time. The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 for the World's Fair held as part of the celebration of the Great French Revolution of 1789. The design was originally intended as a temporary structure specifically for the exhibition, but despite all the protests of the artists of the time, it still stands, despite many people who feared that the structure would lead to the construction of other similar buildings and that such a huge object would not fit into the general architecture of Paris. Today, Parisians no longer have such an antipathy to the tower, and no one can imagine Paris without the Eiffel Tower. In fact, light became a symbol of the city. Gustave Eiffel, who was responsible for the appearance of the Eiffel Tower, is known for his revolutionary methods for the construction of bridges, which were used when working on the Garabi Viaduct. These methods were the basis for the construction of the Eiffel Tower. He was also known for creating the iron frame for the Statue of Liberty. The realization of this design took more than two years. Each of the approximately 12,000 iron fragments was created separately to give the desired shape. All the fragments were collected by hand and then connected together with about 7 million nails. After opening on March 31, 1889, the Eiffel Tower was to be the tallest structure in the world until the Chrysler Building was completed in 1930.
